Anti-wrinkle injections are used to help reduce or completely eliminate wrinkles, particularly those that occur due to facial expressions. It is the treatment of choice for forehead lines, crow’s feet and lines between the eyebrows. It can also be used to help reduce lines in the lower face, such as smoker’s lines, lift the corners of the mouth, slim a jawline and reduce a gummy smile. Medical aesthetics use these injections for treatment of headaches and migraines, teeth grinding (bruxism)   and excess sweating (hyperhydrosis).

Immediately after treatment

Often after anti-wrinkle injections, you can go about your normal day. It is important, however, that you follow the advice of Dr. Natasha carefully. This will help you gain maximum effect from the procedure and reduce the risk of complications.

You may experience localised redness and pin-prick marks around the injection sites which will be temporary.

To help get the best out of your anti-wrinkle treatment, you need to:

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area and avoid strenuous exercise for 24 – 48 hours after treatment. Failure to do so may result in affecting muscles it shouldn’t.
  • The treatment takes around 72 hours to begin working and 2 weeks for the effects to be fully visible, although you may feel most of the effect after 7 to 10 days.
  • Contact Dr. Natasha if you have any unusual results such as prolonged bruising, swelling, irritation, infection or eyelid/eyebrow drooping.

What are Anti-Wrinkle injections used for?

Anti-Wrinkle injections used for:

  • Forehead lines
  • Bunny lines
  • Softening or defining the jaw angle
  • Crow’s feet (around your eyes)
  • Eyebrow lift
  • Frown lines/11s
  • Marionette lines
  • Neck lines
  • Chin dimples
  • Gummy smile
  • Mouth droop
  • Smokers lines

Ideal candidates for anti-wrinkle injections are those who have dynamic wrinkles that are visible when their face is moving. If you have deeper, static wrinkles (which are present even when your face isn’t moving), you may require a combination of dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections to achieve the desired outcome.

Injections can be used to prevent excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis) and in reducing headaches and migraines.

How should I prepare for treatment?

A week before your treatment, avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E and fish oil supplements. These may increase bleeding and bruising. However, you can take paracetamol if needed.

If you are taking any prescribed medication, including aspirin, do not stop taking it – consult Dr. Natasha or your GP first.

Avoid drinking alcohol 24 hours before your treatment, as this also increases the risk of bruising.

Q. Will my face look frozen? Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

A. No, you won’t look frozen and yes, you will be able to make expressions. The degree of muscle movement required to maintain a natural looking appearance after treatment will depend on your age, ethnicity and individual characteristics. Dr Natasha  will provide bespoke treatments for you at your consultation.

Q. What areas of my face can I have treated?

A. This anti-wrinkle treatment is used for lines in the forehead, frown and eye area. However, it can be used for many other cosmetic treatments including bunny lines (lines around the nose bridge), gummy smile reduction, dimply chin reduction and jawline slimming.

Q. Does anti-wrinkle treatment fill in the “static” lines on my face?

A. No, it doesn’t fill them in but treats the cause of the lines by reducing the muscle pull on the skin in that area. Static lines can be reduced in appearance but not removed.  Directly plumping the lines can be performed afterwards in some facial areas.

Q. What are dynamic wrinkles?

A. Dynamic wrinkles are lines that appear, or significantly deepen, when your face moves. These are the lines that get the best results from wrinkle reduction treatment.

Q. What happens if I stop my anti wrinkle injections? Will my wrinkles be worse?

A. No, your wrinkles may come back if you stop but they will not be worse. In fact they are very likely to be better than before you started treatment.

Q. What can I do to make my treatment last longer?

A. There isn’t anything that you can do to make it last longer. There is huge individual variation here –  most people have effects for 3 months but some can last over 6 months.
